An aerial lift truck is being used to perform electrical work
near a wall.
Before moving on to the next work site, the worker tries to stow the outriggers using the operating levers on the side of the vehicle.
Because only the two outriggers on the wall side were
lowered, the aerial lift truck tilted toward the wall, pinning the worker
between the vehicle and the wall.
Tips for preventing similar accidents
1.
Undergo preliminary safety training on how to properly
operate outriggers.
2.
When performing work using an aerial lift truck, create a
work plan in advance that ensures a wide enough space for the operator to work
the machine safely. Ensure that the worker is fully aware of this plan.
3.
When performing work that is potentially hazardous, assign someone to serve as a guide and perform work in accordance with a work plan while carefully looking at the work site conditions.
