FORKLIFT ACCIDENT CASE22

| A lift truck operator is now loading logs on a truck. He temporarily put the first log of the second layer on top of the first layer. While the truck driver is holding it firmly at one end with a pickax, the lift truck driver tries to push it in at another end with the fork so as to set it in proper array. |
A push to the log with the fork set it rolling all of sudden. The log fell off on the ground, involving the truck driver. He could not escape the death.

| Tips for forestalling the accident
| 1. |
Use a hinged fork or a log fork that is suited to the handling of logs. |
| 2. |
Never give a push to a log for the purpose of adjusting its posture. By the same token, an assistant worker (the truck driver in this case) will take a safe position in anticipation of perils resulting from sudden movement of logs. |
| 3. |
Heighten the truck gates over the normal height. In addition set up bolsters on the truck body to prevent a log heap from collapsing. |
